EXPERIENCE

 

Database  Administrator,   Warner Bros.    ( Apr 96 - Present )

 

Goal:  Implementation of  Merchandise Allocation software for Studio Stores across the Nation using Oracle 7.2.

 

 Install Oracle 7.2.3 on HP-9000 Server running HP-UX 10. Establish SQL*Net V2 between HP Unix Box and

 Windows-NT Workstations using TCP/IP Protocol.

 

 Working with Warner Bros Retail Department which has about 130 stores nation wide, to install their Allocation software from  

 Comshare Inc., ( A 3rd party front-end software for  Allocation ) on Oracle database.

 

 Designed and developed table structures, PL*SQL stored procedures and database triggers to implement business rules.

 

 Data warehousing, which include history data collection from previous months/years selling figures to calculate present need  

 of merchandise for the stores by  SKU/Class basis.

 

 Performance tuning for history tables which are as big as 1.5 mill

ion rows, to access the data faster.

 

 Automated data loading procedures from the Host system to Oracle using Unix shell-scripts,  SQL and PL*SQL  procedures.

 

 Used ERWIN tools for ER Diagrams and to implement  business rules for table structures and database triggers.

 

 Documentation of the dataflow and system design.

 

 Training programmers with SQL, PL*SQL and Oracle Browser to create various reports for weekly sales by store etc.

 

 

Database  Administrator,   Countrywide Funding.    ( Sep 95 - Apr 96 )

 

  Goal :  Implementation, Performance tuning  and Upgrade of PeopleSoft HR application running on Oracle 7.1.

 

  Upgraded  Server, Database, and SQL*Net, which includes of upgrading  Oracle from 7.1.3  to 7.1.6,    upgrading Compaq  

  Proliant 2000 to Compaq Proliant 4500  with 4 Pentiums running SCO-UNIX MPX and SQL*Net V1 to SQL*Net V2.

 

  Performance tuning of PeopleSoft Human Resources package ( overall performance gain is about 600% ), which includes

  optimization of  UNIX Kernel,  Oracle INIT.ORA,  Oracle SGA,  Post Wait Driver,  I/O balancing  and  memory.

 

  Converted very slow and complicated views to tables and implemented database triggers to update them to achieve 1000%

  performance improvement from PeopleSoft front-end.  Also converted slow VB interfaces to PL*SQL stored procedures.

 

  Implemented nightly cron jobs to print DBA reports and  PeopleSoft validation SQRs, SQL and PL*SQL scripts.

 

  Implemented nightly backup routines which includes database exports, tape backup and copying database  files to the 

  development server for precautionary measures.

 

  Implemented  ARCHIVELOG process and procedures for automatic copying files to development server as they generated.

 

  Implemented a menu-driven DBA tool to monitor and to get info on users, free-space, extents, tablespaces, tables and indexes.

 

  Documentation - includes UNIX kernel changes, backup and restoration strategies, database layout and reorg. of database.

 

  Upgraded PeopleSoft from Ver 4.0 to Ver 5.0, which involved massive conversion of the database using PeopleSoft

  tools and testing the converted database and optimizing  it for performance.

 

  Training for developers and Unix admin in  Database concepts, tuning of  SQL statements,  DBA areas and Unix areas.

 

 

Database/Systems Administrator,   All Payments Services.    ( Nov 94 - Aug 95 )

 

Main projects:

 

  Upgrading payroll database ( about 30 Gig in size ) based on Oracle, from 7.0.15 to 7.1.4  running on SUN Server.

 

  Upgrading back-end server from SUN Sparc-10 to multi-processor Sparc-20 running Solaris 2.4.

 

  Implemented Oracle’s new parallel query option and SQL*Net Ver 2.

 

  Performance tuning with parallel query option and SQL statements in PL*SQL stored procedures.

 

  Implemented Oracle’s logical disk-striping on SUN server by spreading tablespaces across disk-drives.

 

  Analyzed and modified the back-end database and front-end application for maximum productivity.

 

  Developed Data Modeling diagrams for the Oracle database using ERwin/ERX tools on MS-Windows. 

 

  Separated Accounting department’s database from Payroll database, on to a new Pentium  Server running

 

  SCO-Unix with WIDE-SCSI-RAID controller with Level-5 option for fault-tolerance and maximum throughput.

 

  Data-synchronization between Payroll and Accounting departments with Oracle’s SNAPSHOTS as daily process.

 

  Implemented and tested ARCHIVELOG for both Payroll and Accounting  databases.

 

  Optimized INIT.ORA parameters to best utilize the new system’s resources.

 

  Established Oracle database connection for MS-Query and other products  in MS-Windows  using ODBC drivers.

 

 

Database Administrator,   Coram Health Care Services.    ( Apr 94 - Nov 94 )

 

  Responsibilities include maintaining Oracle Financials, Oracle7 database on HP-9000 running HP-UX 9.0.

 

  Maintaing a proprietary Client-Server for Health Care industry with PowerBuilder as front-end  and

  Oracle7 as back-end at various Health Care Centers in different States in U.S., on NT and Novell database

  servers which  are on WAN talking to Corporate HP Unix Servers.

 

  Established database connectivity between Oracle database running on HP, NT and Novell Servers using SQL*NET.

 

  Developed distributed database environment between different Oracle servers.

 

  Created database links and SNAPSHOTS for Center’s tables to update Corporate database  for billing purposes.

 

  Extensively worked on raw-data in different styles which needs to go into the database using SQL*Loader, Q&E and Excel.

 

  Provided guidance for developers in writing and tuning PL*SQL stored procedures.

 

  Responsibilities also included upgrading Oracle database, tools on different platforms, security  and backups.

 

 

Systems and Database Administrator,    All Payments Services.    ( Mar 91 -  Mar 94 )

 

 

  Business involved in Payroll and Accounting services specializing in Entertainment Industry.

 

 In-house Responsibilities:

 

 

  Established a full TCP/IP Ethernet network environment with SUN Sparc-10 as back-end payroll database server with

   ORACLE7 engine.

 

  Compaq Systempro running SCO-UNIX as front-end SQL*Net link to SUN Server with multiple terminals, various 

  printers, NFS and FAX services. Network also include several DOS 486 workstations with FTP’s TCP/IP protocol used

  for shared input and data on SUN Server and disk sharing (NFS), print services on the Compaq and two 486/EISA

  SCO- Unix platforms for development and testing of payroll and accounting softwares.

 

  On going upgrades to network includes maintaining system software, users, security, filesystem integrity, adding disks

  and tape drives as needed.

 

  Proficient in Unix-Internals including Shell programming, terminfo, kernel modifications, performance tuning, printer

  interfacing, AIX’s SMIT and SCO’s sysadmsh.

 

  Oracle DBA experience include reorganization of databases, monitoring tablespaces, indexes, extents, performance

   tuning,   customized login scripts and CRT definition for Forms application.

 

  Oracle programming experience include SQL*Forms 4.0, SQL*Plus , PL/SQL, SQL*ReportWriter.

 

 

 Client Responsibilities:

 

  Onsite installation and integration of Corporate Accounting database server on Oracle engine for following platforms,

  which includes redesign of fileystems, peripherals to accommodate existing workstations, terminals and printers.

 

  IBM RS6000 using Macintosh workstations on TCP/IP ethernet environment.

 

  SUN Sparc-10 with Wyse-50 terminals and Macintosh workstations on TCP/IP network.

 

  Multiple SCO-Unix platforms on Intel Pentium/486, with MS-Windows workstations.

 

  Clients include Aaron Spelling Entertainment, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Universal Studios.

  Responsibilities include application programming, testing and implementation using C and Informix-4GL 4.0.

 

  Designed and developed a customized Item-Proposal software for AT&T.

 

  Developed a software which monitors the Worker’s Log-Sheets for Caterpillar Inc.

 

  Modified a general “Point-Of-Sale” software for John’s Automotive Parts in Peoria.

 

  Designed and developed an in-house “Code Maintenance” software for integrating all source code changes and

  upgrading  versions for known bugs and for task assigning.

 

  Designed and developed a software for Purchase Order, Work Order and Inventory Control using Informix-4GL.
